Wear protective gear- Safety always comes first no matter how easy the chainsaw file makes it for you. As a professional one can’t put safety at stake. Hence, protective gear like gloves is always a must while using the chainsaw files for sharpening the dull blade shapely and effectively.
Clamp the bar of the chainsaw- Use a tabletop clamp or a vise to hold the chainsaw firmly and prevent it from shifting as you sharpen it. This will enable a more consistent, effortless, and easy chainsaw chain filing process.
Set your chainsaw file on the front of the cutter- There is an angled tooth that you can notice on the front of the flat surface of the chain link. Put the tip of the chainsaw file inside the notice of the tooth in a way that the file’s diameter can be right above the top of the tooth.
Slide the file on the face of the cutter- Hold the file firmly so that it stays level and flat over the top of the chain. On the smooth motion push, the file through the cutter and file started grinding against the cutter.
File the cutter 3 to 10 times until it gets sharp- Continuously repeat the same motion of running the file against the cutter until you didn’t find it looks shiny, silver in color, and sharp. To ensure precise sharpness, count how many times you file it against the cutter. Generally, three to 10 times is enough for achieving sharp filing results.
Like any other gardening tool in your arsenal, both the Stihl carburetor and chainsaw need to be properly and consistently maintained to perform the task effectively without compromising on quality output. Of course, you can hire a professional to maintain and sharpen your chainsaw, but after following the above steps to use the chain files you can also be a pro in sharpening a chainsaw and save some money in the process.
